A recent report by Western Sydney University demonstrates that the gap between jobs and employed residents in Western Sydney has grown significantly over the last 13 years and this trend must be reversed, says the Urban Taskforce.

The Urban Taskforce Australia has today released a report which finds that the most important issue in improving Sydneys transport and infrastructure problem is to reverse the massive number of commuters heading daily from Western Sydney to work in other parts of Sydney.

The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development exhibited the Western Sydney Airport Draft Environmental Impact Statement 2015 and Western Sydney Draft Airport Plan for public comment. The Urban Taskforce submission supported the development of the second airport but raised significant concerns regarding proposed noise contours, lack of rail link to the new airport and suggested more flexible employment zones be used to maximise use of this costly piece of infrastructure.

We have been working with Government as a member of the Employment Lands Taskforce, haveextensively contributed to the development of planning principles for industrial lands and willcontinue to participate in the development of a structure plan for the broader Western SydneyEmployment Area. There needs to be an anti-NIMBY provision. Narrowing of state significant development categories is not appropriate. Rail corridor should be defined. There is an absence of transitional provisions for existing applications before the joint regional planning panels. There are problems with the provision related to staged development and joint regional planning panels.
